When registering a trademark at the Intellectual Property Office of Mongolia (“IPOM”), the procedures outlined in the “Procedures for Filing Trademarks and Geographical Indications, Examining, Registering, Maintaining State Registers, and Amending” are followed. Companies without an official residence address in Mongolia, as well as foreign nationals, legal entities, or stateless persons not actively engaged in production or services within the country, must submit their applications through an authorized intellectual property representative holding a special license issued by the IPOM.
In general, the following documents are required to file a trademark applicaton:
- Power of Attorney /original PoA must be provided to IPOM within 2 months from the filing date of the application/
- Copy of the legal entity’s certificate;
- Receipt confirming payment of stamp duties and official fees;
- Certified priority documents (if the applicant wishes to claim priority). These documents must be submitted to IPOM within 3 months from the filing date of the application.

Please note that, according to the Law on Trademarks and Geographical Indications, it takes approximately 9 months to obtain a trademark registration in Mongolia from the initial filing date to registration, and this period may be extended by an additional 6 months. Following completion of the examination process, a paper trademark registration certificate will be issued, valid for 10 years.
